The Central Government has so far blocked 1.4 lakh mobile number blocks to control digital frauds. According to an official statement, these mobile numbers were linked to financial fraud. A meeting on cyber security (CYBER SECURITY) of the financial services sector was held on Friday under the chairmanship of Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi.
The meeting discussed a range of issues including inclusion of banks and financial institutions in the ‘Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System’ (CFCFRMS) platform through the merger of API (Application Programming Interface).
According to a central government statement, the CFCFRMS platform will be connected to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). This will enable better coordination between police, banks and financial institutions. The statement added that the department of telecommunications has analysed 35 lakh primary units sent bulk SMS. Of these, 19,776 units involved in dangerous SMS transmission have been blacklisted.
More than 500 people have been arrested in this connection and around 3.08 lakh ‘SIMs’ have been blocked. It is to be noted that incidents of cyber fraud are increasing rapidly in the country, especially cyber criminals who have committed fraud by calling people through mobiles.
There is always a need to be vigilant and careful to avoid cyber fraud. Never click on any unknown link that comes up in SMS and e-mail. Never give confidential information associated with your bank account to a stranger. Also do not reply to and block any suspicious phone, message or mail.
