The election season has begun in the country. The Election Commission has already announced the dates for the 18th Lok Sabha elections. The Lok Sabha elections will be held in several phases this time. But who makes ink on the fingers while voting? What is the value of that ink? Do you know when you first used this ink!
Voting began for the first time in 962, about 15 years after India gained independence, with the process of putting this ink on the fingers of voters. Since it is not possible to erase the ink easily, the Election Commission made arrangements so that a voter could not vote twice.
Since then Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited or MPVL has been manufacturing this voting ink. It is an agency under the Government of Karnataka.
The formula used to make this voting ink is concealed by MPVL. This voting ink is prepared by MPVL with the help of National Physical Laboratory.
This organization was started in 1937. Not only in India but the voting ink produced by Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited is exported to 25 other countries. Such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Nigeria, South Africa, Afghanistan etc.
This particular ink made by MPVL consists of a small dew 10 milliliters. It does not allow ink on the fingers of about 700 people. According to a report published in The Financial Express, the price of this 10 ml dew of vote ink has come down to Rs 127.
As a result, the price of 1 litre of voting ink came down to Rs 1,270. A drop of this ink costs around Rs 12 and Rs 70 paise. The Election Commission has floated the MPVL’s bid for the construction of 26 lakh ink sis for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
