A good news This good news is coming out in the academic field of Assam on the eve of the arrival of Phagun. Among the libraries of all the universities in the country, the Krishna Kanta Handiqui Library of Gauhati University has won the honor of excellence.

The Indian Library Association has conferred this honour on our heritage university. The award was presented to the Krishna Kanta Handiqui Library in the 69th session of the Association. It is to be noted that this library was established in 1948 just a year after the country gained independence. However, it was first established in Jalukbari, the country of Krishnachura.

The entire area where this library was established is still known as Old University Road. Later it was shifted to Jalukbari. At present Prashant Kumar Das is in charge of the librarian of Krishna Kanta Handiqui University. Today this historical library has 2 lakh 82 thousand 701 books.

There are also 4500 books of sanchipata in this library. It is worth noting that 7 thousand 593 valuable books in the private library of Pandit Prabor Krishna Kanta Handiqui are also preserved in this library of Gauhati University. Pali is a book in Sanskrit, Latin and Prakrit languages.
