Maldivian President is firm on his anti-India stance. Reiterating his stand against India, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu told Parliament on Monday that the Maldives does not allow any country to interfere or damage our sovereignty.
According to national media reports, he said New Delhi and Maldives have agreed that Indian troops will leave the Maldives by May 10. The President said indian troops on one of the island nation’s three aircraft platforms would withdraw by March 10 and troops in the other two would be withdrawn by May 10.
“Maldives will not renew its agreement with India. We will not allow any country to interfere in our sovereignty. The president’s decision was slamed by opposition parties in the Maldivian government, saying the decision was detrimental to the nation.
At present, there are about 80 military personnel in India in the Maldives. Relations between the two countries have soured since Muizzu came to power in November last year. After taking office, the pro-China president said he would fulfill his poll promises by withdrawing The Indian Army from the country.
