Rahul Gandhi has promised to make caste reservation more than 50 per cent if the India group government is formed. Rahul Gandhi made this promise in the midst of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra without caste calculations.
“If the India-group government is formed by defeating the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, the caste-based reservation will be increased by more than 50 per cent. Speaking at a rally after the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra arrived in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi on Monday, Gandhi said, “Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBCs have been treated as hereditary labourers for ages. Their representation in the large industry sector of the country, in the medical sector, in schools, colleges, courts, etc. is limited. If we come to power, we will introduce a reservation system of more than 50 per cent to ensure proportionate representation for them.”
Not only this, Rahul also promised to enact a law to implement this system. The Constitution of India does not permit more than 50 per cent of the reservation on the caste system. In the meantime, states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra, etc. have more than 50 per cent reservation facility with the approval of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court has said in this regard that such reservation can be arranged in the states on the basis of acceptable explanation. However, there is no such system at the central level. Rahul Gandhi said that if the India group comes to power, caste calculation will be done first. The 50 per cent reservation limit for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBCs will be highlighted.
