The death of a farmer on Sunday in the midst of the farmers’ agitation has created a stir among the protesting farmers. The farmer succumbed to his injuries while protesting in front of the residence of former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
According to reports, the farmer suffered a cardiac arrest in the middle of the agitation on Sunday evening. He was then admitted to the hospital. Doctors declared the farmer brought dead at the hospital.
According to police sources, the deceased farmer has been identified as Narinder Pal. He is a resident of Bathoi Kalan village in Patiala district. On Sunday evening, a farmers’ organization named Bharti Kisan Union Ek Ugrahan organized a protest in front of the residence of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Narinder Singh, a farmer, took part in the protest.
According to eyewitnesses, Narinder suddenly experienced chest pain in the midst of the protest. He was rushed to the hospital but died after being treated for some time at the hospital. After the death of the farmer, the farmer leader now demands a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the deceased Narinder.
The deceased farmer had a debt burden of Rs. 10 lakhs on his head. After Narinder’s death, the burden of that debt is now over. That cannot be accepted. The government should, therefore, take measures to repay this loan.
