Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. This will be Sonia Gandhi’s first term in the Upper House of Parliament after completing six terms in the Lok Sabha from Raebareli.
Sonia Gandhi had announced on February 15 that she would not contest the Lok Sabha elections this time. But he filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. After that Sonia Gandhi was elected unopposed. Bjp’s Chunnilal Garcia and Madan Raso have been elected unopposed to the Upper House from Rajasthan.
Two of these three seats were elected unopposed by the BJP and one by the Congress. After this, the Congress has six MPs and four from the BJP in the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.
Elections were scheduled to be held for three out of the total 10 seats in Rajasthan. Only 3 had filed their nominationpapers for these 3 seats. The last date for withdrawal of names was February 20. However, if no candidate’s name is withdrawn, they are declared elected. February 27 was the day the elections were held as and when required.
