The schedule for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) was announced on Thursday. The first leg of this T20 league will begin on March 22. Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will face off in the opening match.
The match will be played in Chennai. The Chennai team will be led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The IPL schedule has been announced for the first 17 days with an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the country, in which 21 matches will be played in the first phase. Earlier in 2019 too, the IPL was held in different phases.
Fast bowler Mohammad Shami has been ruled out of IPL 2024. Shami is currently battling an injury. He needs surgery to get rid of it. In such a situation, he will be operated upon soon. Shami’s exit from the full season of IPL 2024 is a big blow for Gujarat Giants.
A total of 72 players were sold in the IPL auction held in December. Among them were 30 foreign players. A total of 10 franchises spend Rs 230.45 crore. In this auction, Kolkata Knight Riders bought Australia’s Mitchell Starc at the highest price. Starc was signed by KKR with his team for Rs 20.75 crore.
