Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several projects worth Rs 15,400 crore in Kolkata as part of a 10-day visit to 12 states and union territories. This is Modi’s second visit to West Bengal in five days.

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Howrah Maidan-Escapade section of the East-West Corridor of Kolkata metro, which is the first step of the underwater metro service.
The 4.8-km stretch of the East-West Metro has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4,965 crore and will be India’s dot metro station at Howrah, which is 30 metros below the surface.

According to The Central Railway, the Howrah Maidan-Escapade section of the East West Corridor of Kolkata Metro was inaugurated today, passenger services will start at a later date. Prime Minister Modi also gave the green signal to other train services while focusing on ensuring ease of urban mobility during his visit to Kolkata.

These include the poet Subhas-Hemanta Mukherjee and the Taratala-Majerhat metro segment. Prime Minister Modi also dedicated the name of the Pune Metro nation from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi block.
