Ahead of Ramadan, the Islamic country Saudi Arabia has taken a big decision on Iftar. The Islamic country has imposed a ban on iftar inside mosques. Ramadan occurs in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, considered to be the holiest month. This year’s Ramzan will start from March 10 and end on April 7.
During Ramadan, Muslims stay from dawn to dusk. The food they consume after the sun sets is called iftar. Many people earn a living in iftar masjid. But Saudi Arabia banned the acceptance of iftar in mosques during Ramadan.
In a notification issued on February 20, 2024, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs said that the Saudi Arabian government has decided not to hold iftar programmes inside the mosque considering the cleanliness of the mosque.
The post states that the imams and muezzins of the mosque should arrange iftars outside the mosque. It also said that no temporary tent should be installed for iftars. Iftar is the responsibility of Imam and Muezzin. It is also their responsibility to keep the mosque clean.
The ministry has directed that the mosque authorities cannot accept grants for iftars. The Saudi Arabian government has instructed imams and muezzins not to take financial grants for iftar.
It is also said that the use of cameras and mobile phones will be stopped in the mosque premises. It has also banned the sharing of prayer scenes through social media.
