90 percent of the world’s one-horned rhinoceros at Kaziranga. Hence the national park is also known as Rhinoland in the tourist field. There are a total of 35 mammals, 42 types of fish and 500 types of birds in Kaziranga.
History of Kaziranga
According to history, Mary Curzon, wife of the then Viceroy of India Lord Curzon, came to visit Kaziranga in 1904. But he could not see the rhinos in Kaziranga. It was then that Mary took a pledge to conserve the rhinoceros.
Kaziranga became a national park on January 1, 1974. Kaziranga was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 for the biodiversity of Kaziranga.
