Delhi CM and AAP Leader Arvind Kejriwal has been granted anticipatory bail by a Delhi court in the excise scam case. Arvind Kejriwal appeared before the court on Saturday morning.
It may be recalled that the ED had filed a complaint against Kejriwal in the Rouse Avenue court. The investigating agency had alleged that Arvind Kejriwal had skipped summons issued for questioning a total of eight times in connection with the Delhi excise scam. But Kejriwal is properly participating in government functions and party programmes.
Hearing the case on Thursday, the court directed Kejriwal to appear before the court on March 16. Following the order, he appeared before the court on Saturday morning.
The ED had approached the court not only this time but also before. The probe agency had approached the court even after it rejected the fifth summons issued by the ED to Kejriwal over the excise scam.
The ED had filed a petition in the court on February 3 in this regard. Hearing the petition on February 7, the court directed Kejriwal to appear before the court and file a statement.
But on February 17, in the Delhi Assembly, oscillator of the floor test appeared in the court virtually instead of appearing in a row. The ED has issued summons to Arvind Kejriwal a total of eight times in the Delhi excise corruption case. But every time he leaves this summons.
Last Monday, Arvind Kejriwal had said that he would answer all queries of the ED only after March 12. The AAP leadership said through a press conference that Arvind Kejriwal wants to answer all queries of the ED only through video conferencing. But the ED said it would not be questioned through video conferencing.
Subsequently, the court also directed Kejriwal to appear in court physically. Following the order, he appeared in the court on Saturday and applied for bail and got the bail.
